Bank Calumet building revitalization moving forward
HAMMOND, Ind. – The revitalization of a nearly 100-year-old historic building in downtown Hammond has surpassed the halfway point. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the $24 million project, which will turn the historic Bank Calumet building into apartments and retail space, is slated for completion in time for the building’s 100th anniversary.
The nine-story building was constructed in 1924 but has been closed since 2015.
Once the redevelopment is complete, the building, which will be known as The Banc, will feature 100 market-rate apartment units, as well as a wedding venue in the lobby.
Plans also call for a coworking space, coffee shop and potentially a speakeasy in the building’s basement, according to the publication.
